snehitudu movie review trailer

Movie Review: Snehitudu", the dubbed version of "Nanban", is ace director Shankar's remake of "3 Idiots". Known for his big budget flicks, Shankar's version of the film hardly deviates from the original flick, expect for the addition of one song.

Like in the original, the movie trails the escapades of three good friends - Panchabatla Sarangapani or Pani (Vijay), Venkat Ramakrishna (Sri Ram) and Sanakkayala Ravi (Jiiva) - who study together in an engineering college. Pani scoffs the education system that forces students to study from the books by rote, instead of encouraging students to apply their learnings in a practical manner. Following his own methods of studying, he manages to stand first always, while his two buddies lag behind as their heart lies somewhere else. Venkat is a photography enthusiast, who isn't really keen on engineering, while Ravi ends up spending all his time worrying about his marks.
Virupaksha Sundaram (Satyaraj), the stern principal of the college, holds all the students in terror. Pani ends up falling in love with his daughter, Ria (Ileana). Through the course of the movie, Ravi and Venkat are egged on by Pani to shed their fears and follow their dreams. However, after their final exams, Pani disappears without a trace and the friends are left clueless. Ten years later, Venkat and Ravi travel to meet to their friend Pani, which is actually where the movie, which unfolds in flashback, begins.

It is commendable that director Shankar, a brand in himself in the South Indian industry, decided to remake a good plot for the South audiences. Not in a single scene does he steer away from the original. But when you compare the two, this movie fails to move you emotionally like the original did. The attempts at humor are the same too, but you can't help but get the feeling that something is missing in the remake of the successful film.

Vijay is good in his part but he just can't match up to Aamir Khan's brilliant act in the Hindi version. Full marks to Sri Ram who has done exceptionally well in Madhavan's role. Jiiva, who plays Sharman Joshi, is impressive. While Ileana looks glamorous in her role, she doesn't leave as much an impression as Kareena did in "3 Idiots". Sathyaraj was funny as the princie, 'Virus', which was played by Boman Irani in the original. Sathyan, who had to step into the shoes of Omi Vaidya's 'Chatur' leaves the audiences in splits, especially since comedian Sunil dubbed for the character.

Haaris Jayaraj managed to churn out some catchy numbers. Cinematography by Manoj Paramahansa is top class... his work shines throughout the movie. Abburi Ravi's effective dialogues are also worth a mention.
While "Snehitudu" does make for a good watch, it lacks the emotional quotient and charm of "3 Idiots".

Agneepath official trailer

Jan 27: Agneepath, as the name indicates has ‘Fire’ in it and the smoke emitted is sure to stay in the minds of the viewers even after they step out the theatre, thanks to the efforts taken by its makers and the performers in the movie who make it as good as the original (Agneepath 1990, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Mithun Chakraborty).

Story Outline and Analysis
The movie directed by Karan Malhotra and produced by Karan Johar has a tale of revenge, as already known by the ones who have watched the original one, released in 1990. The challenge for the remake was to maintain the essence of the original, refine it and make it appealing to the present-day crowd in theatres, which it successfully manages to do.
The film begins with the age-old conflict of a reformist school-teacher versus the shrewd zamindar, duping the villagers of their lands. The village here is Mandwa. When the honest master is brutally killed by deadly Kancha Cheena (Sanjay Dutt), his son Vijay Dinanath Chauhan (Hrithik Roshan) vows to take revenge and destroy his perpetrator at any cost.
He goes to Mumbai and joins hands with Rauf Lala (Rishi Kapoor) upon realization that he would need powerful support to demolish Kancha. He plans his every move cleverly.
Vijay's mother (Zarina Wahab), who was pregnant when Vijay had to leave Mandwa gives birth to a baby girl but Vijay conceals his identity from his sister to save her from any danger. When they reunite later you have some of the most touching scenes performed so naturally and brilliantly. Vijay’s childhood friend Kaali (Priyanka Chopra) always stands by his side and with time builds intimate relationship with him despite  being aware of the dark days ahead. With all the hurdles and threats, how the protagonist Vijay manages to take revenge is the core of the movie. Vijay follows the path of fire (Agneepath) with audacity and grit.
The movie is written well. Piyush Mishra's dialogues are imposing and make an impact. Cinematography by Ravi K Chandran and Kiran Deohans is amazing. Akiv Ali's editing is skillful.

Cast
Though the climax of this revenge saga might be predictable it is the elegant performances that keep you glued till the end. Stepping into the shoes of Big B, Hrithik Roshan here has done a commendable job in his own style. Watching Agneepath you can once again say Hrithik has really grown as an actor.
Sanjay Dutt, the baddie here, first of all makes you open your mouth wide open with a mere glance at his huge physic, which in itself seems scary. Performance wise too he is a perfect villain. Rishi Kapoor too as Rauf Lala was incredible. His look suits his role well and so does his acting. Priyanka doesn't have much to do but is cheerful as always. 15-year-old Bhopal girl Kanika Tiwari who is Hrithik’s sister in the movie is too cute and innocent.

Businessman movie trailer

Movie Review: A film like " Businessman" is a cause for celebration, simply because it does away with forced comic interjections in the narrative. For once, the comedy in a mainstream Telugu flick is all situational without being slapstick. The humor is dry and loaded with sarcasm, taking pot shots on everything under the sun, but does the job nevertheless evoking peals of laughter. Kudos to director Puri Jagannath for coming up with those lines.

And then there is Mahesh Babu, in full flow at that. "Round off chesi confuse cheyalanukuntunnara. Confusion lo inka ekkuva kottestha... " goes a punch dialogue. "Matladaniki vacchanu kabatti, manasaupurthy ga kottatledu..." goes another. As far humor goes it is definitely a step up. Some would say that the punch dialogues in "Businessman" are even better, wackier and quirkier than "Pokiri". The must haves of a Mahesh Babu pot-boiler are dutifully ticked off, rather well at that. Five minutes into the film, you get the feeling you are going to enjoy this one, and the feeling stays on till the end.

Coming to the story, there isn't any. Mahesh plays Surya Bhai, who moves to Mumbai with a single point agenda - that of becoming the undisputed don of the business capital's underworld. It happens to be a time when Mumbai is enjoying a relatively crime-free phase with all the mafia kingpins being nabbed, much to the glee of Nassar, the commissioner of Police.

His happiness proves to be short lived as Surya begins to recruit all the goons in the city. He calls his gang Surya Exports and Imports. He soon starts to cut deals with all and sundry - small time businessmen to the biggest politicians, even the Prime Minister. He corporatizes the whole business of mafia and gradually grows to become a rule unto himself. He has a little flashback too which is revealed towards the end.

Chitra (Kajal Aggarwal) is the daughter of the Police Commissioner. She also happens to be Surya's love interest. The much-hyped lip-lock also turns out fine.

"Businessman" is a typical Puri Jagannath film loaded with attitude and style. The narrative moves along at a breakneck speed hardly giving you time to catch your breath. The action is gritty and realistic without going overboard. The leading lady, Kajal plays the eye-candy to perfection, albeit not having the 'Ileana' kind of impact in "Pokiri". Guess you cannot help but compare this one to the 2006 blockbuster, for this is the first time Puri and Mahesh have come together since "Pokiri".

As far as the performances go, Mahesh takes the cake. He had the author- backed role but, still enlivens the whole movie with an intense performance. The climax scene is especially rivetting as Mahesh switches from anger to comedy effortlessly. This must be one of his best performances if not the best. Mahesh literally carries the film from the start to the end. The supporting cast including Sayaji Shinde, Prakash Raj and Subba Raju do justice to their roles. Music by Thaman is good and the background score stands out, amplifying the experience. The film scores high on production values and visual imagery.

All in all, it's an unpretentious entertainer that manages to strike the right balance. It might not be a cinematic wonder but sure has enough in it to keep you interested till the end. How much you like the movie might just be a matter of how fond you are of Mahesh Babu
